Laser Retinal Evaluations

Do you hate getting your eyes dilated? Well, we have the perfect solution for you. Our all-laser retinal exam enables our doctors to perform a thorough retinal evaluation that aids in the early detection of such problems as macular degeneration and glaucoma. The best part, it’s non-invasive and there are no eye drops.

Why do some patients request a laser retinal evaluation?

For most patients, it is requested as an alternative to pupil dilation. The laser retinal exam is comprehensive and non-invasive.

What are the benefits to laser retinal evaluations?

Laser screening often requires less time than the traditional method of dilation. The non-dilating, panoramic camera allows for image enlargement and creates a permanent record to view vision changes over a period of time. As dilation is not required, patients do not experience any light-sensitivity or blurriness due that results from dilation. When you select Laser Retinal Evaluation, you will also receive an OCT screening. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) allows your doctor to evaluate the retinal health on a cellular level. It is used to detect early sings of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other retinal conditions. Many eye disease can be treated early to prevent vision loss. Your images will be stored electronically to leave a permanent record and allow our doctor to monitor for any changes.

How often should you have an eye exam?

As a screening exam, we recommend Optomap retinal scan for all patients over 40 years old once a year. For those under 40 years old, we recommend an eye exam every year. Our doctors will always review your images and explain any findings in the exam room.
